THE ANSWER...with a catch

After Suzy Mallard lost her little sister to Smiley Gator, she vowed to make the world safer, especially for those who didn’t move as quickly. When she discovered the new FoodFinder that shared safe locations with lots of food, she led the neighborhood critters in ditching the old ways to embrace the new that guaranteed survival as long as everyone followed it. However, not everyone did.
This story is part of the Backyard Tales series of allegorical books that help grown-ups and children communicate about important issues that arise. They provide a vehicle for parents to teach their children the lessons they want them to learn about the challenges faced in today’s world.
Nancy Nason Guss creates worlds where she wants to live, where all characters find positive solutions to their problems and learn to live together in harmony. In her worlds, there is always a happy ending; however, this tale is different. Curt, Selvyn, Professor Jay and other favorites face new situations, conflicts, and dangers. How will they be able to adjust and survive in this new world of gadgets and easy fixes?

What Are Backyard Tales?

Suzy Mallard, Curt the Crow and Ivan Ibis at our backyard feeder
Backyard Tales are stories that happen in backyards everywhere. They're designed to read with the children in your life. Every story has learning sections and encourages the children to connect the characters they read about to the ones they see in their own yards, at parks, or even out the car window as they travel.

Each backyard tale includes straight-forward stories where the critters deal with some of the feelings and problems that confront all of us. These situation invite the adults in their lives to share their perspectives, journeys, and ideas with their children.

Backyard Tales help generations grow together in real relationships by connecting to each other through connecting to nature. What a perfect gift of time.

Introducing Lady Lily and Curt the Crow

Curt's feelings are hurt when others who don't know him say unkind things about him. Lady Lily, one of his best friends helps him use his struggles to make a positive difference.

When two different animals playfully frolic in my backyard, I just had to get a picture. This led to the story that can be read on its own or as part of The Spirit of the Tree and Other Backyard Tales anthology.
The Spirit of the Tree and Other Backyard Tales: Connecting to Creation
This anthology includes the first six backyard tales written by Nancy Nason Guss.
